Somali National News Agency established in 1964. It is one of the main pillars of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism. The main centre of SONNA is located in the capital city of Somalia, Mogadishu, and there were number of reports used to in most regions throughout country. SONNA has been active member of the News Union Organizations in Arab, African and International News Agencies; though it was affected by the Somali civil war erupted early 1991, which caused to be not working and absence in the area about two decades. Hence, gradually the agency resumes its activities and at present works some extents since 2012.
Ministry of information, Culture and Tourism endeavours to promote SONNA to be the main and daily news source agency, which provides to the latest to all state, private media organization locally and international, which leads to be the only national news agency which is compatible with world news agencies.
The mission of Somali National News Agency (SONNA) is to carry out these actions; the Agency will work on the modern equipment that the international news agencies work. As the ministry of information planned the stems and branches will have distributed through the whole country and around the world. SONNA empowers and strengthens the journalism in order to organize training capacity building to Somali society by conducting forums, public gatherings, and establishing systems to discuss how to enhance social development systems in Somalia under the rules of Somali government with the bases of Islamic rules.
Objectives of the Somali National News Agency (SONNA) projects are in lined with the federal government of Somalia and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2030 and thus geared towards the social and economic advancement of the SONNA target beneficiaries. SDGs global agenda sets goals and through a trans-formative vision that calls for a world of free of poverty, hunger, disease and where all life can thrive.
Our innovative thinking for sustainable development is based on linking the News, Events and development interventions through a coherent and effective development strategy.
At the SONNA the work we do at every level within the Agency, is committed to work impartiality and collection of news agency on daily basis with accurate the source of information and events, focusing government activities and its progress. A news agency in Somalia and works honesty, impartiality and a follow-up the important events have interest to the federal government of Somalia, which comes from the inside and outside of the country.

The main goals of SONNA news agency are summarized below:
