Federal Government of Somalia’s Weekly Briefing Mogadishu, Thursday, 26th September, 2024

1- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud once again stressed the importance of unity, promoting peace, noting the government’s commitment to the implementation of the government’s decision to combat illegal weapons.
2- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud received diplomatic credentials from the ambassadors of Guinea, Ireland, Romania, Spain, Switzerland and Zambia.
3- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud appointed Ahmed Mohamed Jama as the Senior Adviser to the President on Democracy and Good Governance, while Abdisamad Mohamed Gallan was appointed as the Senior Adviser to the President on Federal Affairs.
4- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud praised the Somali Police Force for their achievements in protecting the security and the stability of the country.
5- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre had a meeting with the Crown Prince of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak in New York.
6- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre had a meeting in New York with the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield.
7- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre met in New York with the President of the Leadership Council of the Republic of Yemen, Dr. Rashad Mohamed Al-Alimi, and discussed the development of peace and security in the region, especially the Red Sea corridor.
8- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre participated in the funeral prayer for the late Sheikh Mohamed Sheikh Abdullahi Sheikh Ibrahim Bardere who died recently in Turkey.
9- The Cabinet of the Federal Government of Somalia has approved the appointment of the new Commander of the Somali Police Force, Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi.
10- The government of Somalia has strongly condemned the shipment of weapons and ammunition from Ethiopia that was brought into the areas of the Puntland State of Somalia.
11- The Speaker of the Upper House of Parliament Mr. Abdi Hashi Abdullahi received the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Wang Yu.
12- The Speaker of the Upper House of Parliament, Mr. Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, received the Deputy Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Raisedon Zenenga.
13- The Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament, Mr. Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, left for the United Arab Emirates, and held meetings with the Chairman of the National Unity Council of the United Arab Emirates, Mr. Saqar Gabash and other members of that council.
14- The Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ahmed Macallin Fiqi met in New York with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Egypt and Eritrea, Badr Abdelatty and Osman Saleh, as they discussed strengthening the interests between Somalia, Egypt and Eritrea.
15- The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Mr. Daud Aweis Jama participated in the closing of a program that trained more than 350 people on the direction of ideological war against the Khawarij and against their propaganda.
16- The Minister of Internal Security, Mr. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartag), presided over a meeting on the control of illegal weapons, the prohibition of the sale of weapons and the distribution of weapons.

22- The President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, received the diplomatic credentials from Ambassador Dahir Hassan (Dahir Arab), who was recently appointed as the ambassador of Somalia to Washington D.C.
23- The Ambassador of Somalia to Kenya, Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, had an important meeting with the Minister of Blue Economy and Minerals of Kenya, Hassan Ali Joho, discussing the strengthening of relations between the two countries, especially cooperation in the fields of blue economy, fishing, and mining.
24- French President Emanuel Macron received the credentials of the new Ambassador of Somalia to Paris, Mr. Mohamed Ali Nur.
25- The National Agency for Refugees and Displaced Persons (NCRI) launched the second round of registration of displaced persons living in Mogadishu, with the help of UNHCR.
26- The National Communications Agency, in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and GSMA, has officially launched a high-level meeting on the implementation of the National Emergency Telecommunications Plan (NETP).
27- The Security and Intelligence Agency in the South West Division arrested a Kharijite member in Barawe town who planted a land mine aimed at harming the innocent people of the town.
28- The outgoing Commander of the Somali Police Force, Brigadier General Sulub Ahmed Firin, has held meetings with the police agencies that support the fight against terrorism in the United States where he paid a visit.
29- The security agencies in Mogadishu displayed illegal weapons and the men who were trading them, following security operations in the capital.
