Federal Government of Somalia’s Weekly Briefing Mogadishu, Friday, 13th December, 2024

1- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia leave behind the controversial agreement that sparked tension and now agreed to open a new page in the relationship between the two countries.
2- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara and discussed the strengthening of relations between the two countries and other issues.
3- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre held a meeting with the UK Ambassador to Somalia, Michael Nithavrianakis to discuss the fight against terrorism and the process of universal suffrage (one person one vote) in the country.
4- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre launched the Somali Justice Strategy 2025-2029, whose motto is “Building an Equitable Justice System, with Transparency, Access, and Accountability.”
5- The Cabinet of Somalia has appointed a committee to investigate the nature of the relationship between the accused Ahmed Madobe and the Kharijites groups, after his attack against Somali National Army in Ras Kambooni area.
6- The 2nd Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Abdisalam Abdi Ali Dhay participated in the commemoration of the International Human Rights Day and the 76th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
7- The Speaker of the People’s Assembly Sheikh Adan Mohamed Noor (Madobe) met with the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Ambassador Wang Yu.
8- The Upper House has held a prayer meeting for Senator Mohamed Ali Yusuf Gaagab who passed away in Turkey.
9- A townhall meeting to discuss the draft constitution was held in Mogadishu.
10- The Somali government has succeeded in bringing back to the country 100 young Somalis who were rescued from the boat disaster off the coast of Madagascar.
11- The Deputy Minister of Information, Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adalah, who held a press conference in Mogadishu, said that the Ethiopian government has landed two Ethiopian Airlines planes in Kismayo, which were carrying illegal weapons.
12- Finance Minister Bihi Iman Ige participated in the annual Africa Financial Summit held in Casablanca, Morocco.
13- The Deputy Minister of Information, Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adalah, opened the Somali Media Relations Strategy Forum hosted by the Ministry of Information in Mogadishu.
14- Four units of the Eagle forces of the Somali National Army have been arrested in the city of Isparta in Turkey for training.
15- Minister of Defense Abdulkadir Mohamed Nujr who participated in the Somali media relations strategy forum said that the media played a significant role in the war against terrorism.
16- The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hamza Adan Hadow, had a meeting with the Head of IOM in Somalia, Mr. Manuel Marques Pereira.
17- The Director General of the Ministry of Information, Abdullahi Hayir Duale, attended the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Ministries of Information in the United Arab Emirates.
18- The Ambassador of Somalia to China, Ambassador Hodan Osman Abdi, met with the Special Envoy of the Chinese Government for the Horn of Africa, Ambassador Xue Bing, in Beijing.
19- The Somali Ambassador to Uganda Mrs. Fardowsa Mohamed Qanyare had a meeting with some Somali elders and intellectuals in Kampala.
20- The Minister of Interior, Honorable Ali Yusuf Ali, chaired a conference on the Process of National Reconciliation, in which its implementation will commence in 2025.
21- A demonstration in support of the Somali Government’s planfor Jubbaland have taken place in Beledhawo district of Gedo region, where communities expressed their support.
22- The Commander of the Somali Police Force, Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi had a meeting with the US Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Richard H. Riley.
23- The envoy of the President of Somalia in charge of Stabilization and Protection of Civil Affairs, MP Omar Hashi, has officially closed the National Forum for the Protection of Civilians, which was held for two days in Mogadishu.
24- The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, welcomed the rapprochement between Somalia and Ethiopia in Ankara, Turkey.
25- The IGAD Regional Organization and some other countries have welcomed the talks between Somali and Ethiopian leaders held in Turkey.
