Over 70 al-Shabaab Khawarij Militants Killed in heavy battles on the Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle Border
Mogadishu, May 18, 2025: The Somali National Army and local community defense forces in Hiiraan have successfully repelled an attack by terrorist militants on villages along the border between the Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.
Over the course of nearly 48 hours of operations, the joint forces eliminated more than 70 members of the terrorist group and captured a significant cache of weapons.
These national heroes thwarted the militants’ attempts to expand their influence and are currently pursuing the remnants of the group in areas of Middle Shabelle.
The Federal Government of Somalia commends the Somali National Army and the brave fighters of Hiiraan for their courage, determination, and for delivering a decisive blow to the militants.
With continued support from the Somali people and international partners, the government remains committed to eradicating terrorist threats from the country.
