SNA Makes Strides Against al-Shabaab, Says Minister Daud Aweys Jama

Somalia’s Security Forces Make Major Gains Against Al-Shabaab: Minister Daud Aweys Jama Declares a Turning Point

In a strong public statement from Somalia’s Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, H.E. Daud Aweys Jama, announced major military gains against the terrorist group Al-Shabaab, declaring that the group’s grip on the country is “breaking apart” under sustained pressure from the Somali National Army (SNA) and its partners.

“The Somali National Army, backed by elite forces, local defence forces & international allies, is making significant strides against the Kharijites Al-Shabab through highly coordinated, strategic operations,” the Minister wrote.

According to the Ministry, recent military operations in South West State and HirShabelle State have resulted in the neutralization of more than 65 militants, including senior commanders of the insurgency. The coordinated strikes have not only disrupted militant operations but also exposed internal weaknesses within the group’s command structure.

This announcement comes amid a broader military campaign led by the Somali government aimed at reclaiming territory, dismantling extremist leadership, and restoring security across key regions. The operations are marked by growing tactical precision, improved intelligence sharing, and the integration of national and local defense units with international partners.

“These targeted offensives are systematically dismantling the insurgent leadership, exposing their vulnerabilities, and pushing them closer to defeat,” Minister Aweys stated.

He emphasized that the Somali government remains fully committed to human rights and lawful conduct, even as it escalates offensive actions against terrorist positions. The public was also cautioned to avoid known militant areas, as precision strikes are expected to intensify in the coming weeks.

“The ongoing campaign sends a clear message: their days of terror are numbered,” the Minister affirmed.

Government officials describe the campaign as a turning point one that reflects both the resilience of Somali security forces and the population’s growing rejection of extremist narratives.
