Dhusamareeb, August 13, 2025 – The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Galmudug State Government, Hon. Ali Mohamud Farah (Ali Seeko), officially opened a two-day training on Media Ethics in Election Coverage in Somalia, taking place in the city of Dhusamareeb.
The training, jointly organized by the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia and the Ministry of Information of Galmudug, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the role of the media in the country’s electoral process. 20 journalists from Galmudug media institutions are participating.
The Director of the Strategic Communication Department at the Federal Ministry of Information, Mr. Abdishakur Ali Ahmed, was the first to speak at the opening ceremony, outlining the workshop’s agenda and highlighting the importance of enhancing journalists’ skills and ethics during election periods.
The Director of Human Resources and Training at the Federal Ministry of Information, Fartun Ahmed Hasan, noted that this training is part of a series of workshops previously held in Mogadishu and Baidoa, aimed at strengthening journalists’ understanding of election coverage in line with journalistic principles and election laws.
Hon. Ali Seeko, Minister of Information of Galmudug, in his opening remarks, urged journalists to make the most of the training, which comes at a timely moment as voter registration is underway in Galmudug.
The workshop aims to enhance the role of the media in covering elections and is part of a continuous program to develop journalists’ skills and knowledge, supported by the United Nations Office for the Transition Period (UNTMIS).
