Federal Government of Somalia’s Weekly Briefing Mogadishu, Friday, 15th August, 2025

1- President Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has formally registered as a voter at one of the voter registration centers in Warta Nabadda District in Mogadishu.
2- H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud extends his deepest condolences on the passing of Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, Head of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS).
3- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has sent condolences for the people who died in the recent fighting in Gedo region, and also asked the forces that crossed the border to neighboring Kenya to return to their respective areas.
4- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has instructed the government to deliver medical aid and humanitarian support to the people affected by the situation in Gedo region.
5- Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, has participated in Cape Town, South Africa, the Continental Water Development Conference (Africa Water Development Conference).
6- Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama, who participated in the International Youth Day celebration held annually around the world, said that Somali youth are leading in the fight to eradicate the enemy from the country.
7- The Cabinet has approved a legislative bill related to mining and another provision concerning the Private Employment Companies Regulatory Law.
8- The Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (SoDMA), Mr. Mohamud Moallim, held a meeting with religious scholars, businessmen, and representatives of major telecommunications and banking companies to discuss relief efforts for people affected by drought in the Awdal region.
9- The Head of the National Supreme Court, Mr. Bashe Yusuf Ahmed met with a delegation from the East Africa Judges Association (EAMJA) on an official visit to the country.
10- Somali National Army Chief Major General Odowa Yusuf Rage inspected areas where cleaning up operations are going on in Barire town, Lower Shabelle, where Kharijites Al Shabab militants were recently driven out.
11- The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, H.E. Daud Aweis Jama, hosted the new representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia, and Head of the AU Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Mr. El Hadji Ibrahima Diene.
12- Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali held talks with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah Al-Yahya in Kuwait City.
13- Minister of Telecommunications and Technology Mohamed Adam Moallim hosted the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Wang Yu, and discussed strengthening cooperation between the two countries and advancing education and modern technology opportunities.
14- The Governor of Banadir Region and the Mayor of Mogadishu Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Mungab) met the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Somalia and Chief of Mission Support to Somalia, James Swan.
15- Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, H.E. Daud Aweis Jama held a farewell meeting with the outgoing EU Ambassador to Somalia Karin Johansson, focusing on cooperation and development in culture and public awareness initiatives.
16- The Chief of Land Forces of the Somali National Army, Brigadier General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, officially inaugurated the new headquarters of the 19th Brigade of the Somali Armed Forces unit of Gorgor.
17- The Director-General of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, Mustafa Dhuhulow, met a delegation from the Iraqi Ministry of Interior led by the Senior Advisor to the Minister of Interior, Brigadier General Ziyad Daha Ali.
18- The National Military Court has sentenced Mohamed Hussein Bulle and Adan Isaq Yarow (Salad Kofi) of the 14th October Battalion to death for espionage and serving the Kharijites Al Shabab group.
19- Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali has formally inaugurated the new Somali embassy building in Algiers, Algeria.
20- Foreign Minister H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali held a meeting with Algeria’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf to discuss security cooperation, education, handicrafts, and livestock.
21- Defense Minister H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi hosted the UNSOS Office for Operational Support in Somalia, Director of Operational Support, Qurat-ul-Ain Sadozai.
22- The Director-General of the Immigration and Citizenship Authority Mustafe Sheikh Ali Dhuhulow met with the U.S. ambassador to Somalia, Richard Hiley, and the Head of Political and Economic Affairs, Matthew Younger.
23- The Ministry of Interior for Federal and Reconciliation said the government has implemented the digital system for civil status registration in 19 districts across the country’s federal member states.
24- Interior Security Minister Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartag) hosted a delegation from Iraq led by Senior Advisor ot the Interior Minister Brigadier General Ziyad Daha Ali.
25- The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of the FGS in collaboration with the Ministries of Information of the South West and Galmudug states held a media ethics and electoral reporting workshop in Baydhabo and Dhusamareeb attended by 40 journalists.
26- The Commander of the Land Forces of the Somali National Army Brig. General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, conducted an on-site inspection of Barire in Lower Shabelle, where Kharijites Al Shabab terrorist militants were driven out.
27- Defense Minister H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi stated that nearly 120 Kharijites militants were killed in Barire, with the enemy being forced out along with the seizure of substantial weaponry and supplies.
28- Somalia’s ambassador to Yemen, Abdihakim Mohamed Ahmed, met in Sanaa with Yemen’s Vice President Aidarus Qasim Al-Zubedi to discuss countering threats such as piracy, illegal arms trafficking, and human smuggling.
29- The Somali Armed Forces announced that an operation in the Warta Eey Duure area resulted in the elimination of the Kharijites senior figure in charge of finance and extortion Abdullahi Abukar Ali.
