Mogadishu, April 26, 2025 – The Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia has organized a workshop on Media Ethics in Election Reporting, attended by 25 journalists from both private and national media outlets.
The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, H.E. Daud Aweys Jama, who officially opened the workshop, stated that the goal is to enhance the media’s role in covering elections, emphasizing that journalistic reporting should always build public trust, ensure accuracy, transparency, and impartiality in election coverage.
Minister Daud Aweys advised the participating journalists—and the media at large—that they carry a significant responsibility in guiding the public and supporting peacebuilding, especially during this critical period when the government is simultaneously combating extremists and facilitating free and fair elections.
The Director General of the Ministry, Mr. Abdullahi Hayir Ducaale, explained that the training, supported by the United Nations Office in Somalia, aims to strengthen media ethics in election reporting.
The two-day training will focus on deepening journalists’ understanding of their role in disseminating election-related information and will be conducted by experts in journalism.
