Federal Government of Somalia’s Weekly Briefing Mogadishu, Friday, 24th April, 2026

1- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud returned to the country after attending the International Forum on Diplomacy in Antalya, Turkey.

2- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud inaugurated the new central headquarters of the Ministry of Ports and Maritime Transport of Somalia.

3- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre launched the Dolow project to strengthen city resilience and promote social integration between displaced people and hosting communities, a key step for improving vulnerable communities’ lives.

4- The Somali Cabinet endorsed the establishment of the Unified Service Center under the Prime Minister’s Office, affiliated with Halmeel.

5- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre met with the head of Mustaqbal Center, a institute serving children with special needs.

6- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre laid the foundation stone for the Curriculum Development Center to improve the quality of education.

7- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre inaugurated the new headquarters for the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, a modern building serving the Somali people.

8- Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama attended a ceremony in which the newly appointed Director of the Immigration and Citizenship Authority Hussein Kasim Yusuf took the office from the outgoing Director Mustafa Sheikh Ali Dhuhulow.

9- Mogadishu hosts the opening of Modernization Research Center of China at the Diplomacy Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

10- The Minister of Health and Social Welfare H.E. Ali Haji Adan has inaugurated the Mother and Child section of Forlanini Hospital in Mogadishu.

11- The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, H.E. Daud Aweis Jama has opened a forum in Mogadishu on managing social media use and preventing its misuse coordinated by Heritage Institute.

12- The Minister of Internal Security Minister Abdullahi Sheekh Ismail (Fartaag) formally closed a training for 120 Somali Police Force soldiers, specifically the Darawish unit.

13- The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, H.E. Daud Aweis Jama inaugurated a joint training program by the Ministry of Information and Mogadishu University on research and media.

14- The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation H.E. Mohamed Abdi Hayirgave remarks on the importance of supporting farmers affected by bridge collapses.

15- A joint operation by NISA and international partners resulted in the killing of 33 Khawarij terrorists in Gulane, Middle Shabelle region.

16- The Federal Government of Somalia repatriated back home 174 citizens who were stranded in Libya.

17- Somalia’s Ambassador to Turkey, Fathudin Ali, presented credentials to President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan.

18- The Commander of Somali National Army Brig. General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud, visited Bardale and Awdiinle in Bay region for an on-site inspection.

19- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Islamic diplomatic bodies condemned Israel’s appointment of a new ambassador to the northern regions of Somalia’s Federal Republic.

20- Somalia’s Ambassador to India, Abdullahi Mohamed Odowaa, met with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Colombo.
