Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Meets the European Union Ambassador to Somalia

Mogadishu, 10 June 2026 – The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Abdulfatah Kasim Mohamud, today held a meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Ms. Francesco Di Mauro, at the European Union Diplomatic Compound in Mogadishu.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation and partnership between the Federal Government of Somalia and the European Union, particularly in the areas of media, culture, tourism, and support for government efforts aimed at enhancing public awareness and citizen engagement.

The two sides held in-depth discussions on strengthening collaboration in public awareness initiatives, combating misinformation and disinformation, and addressing the growing risks associated with the misuse of social media platforms, which can negatively affect security, stability, and social cohesion.

H.E. Abdulfatah Kasim Mohamud, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, expressed appreciation for the European Union’s continued support to Somalia, particularly in the areas of state-building, media development, stabilization, good governance, and institutional capacity enhancement. He underscored the importance of further strengthening cooperation in modern media, public awareness, and the promotion of culture and tourism.

H.E. Ms. Francesco Di Mauro, European Union Ambassador to Somalia, reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to continuing its support for Somalia, particularly in promoting responsible media, strengthening societal resilience against misinformation, and supporting efforts aimed at advancing stability and national development.
