The Federal Government of Somalia, through the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, has officially announced the appointment of Mr. Mohamedkafi Abukar Mohamed as the new Director of Somali National Television (SNTV).
The appointment was made by H.E. Daud Aweis Jama, Minister of Information, in line with ongoing efforts to strengthen public service media and improve the national broadcaster’s reach, professionalism, and service to Somali citizens.
Mohamedkafi Abukar Bio
Mohamedkafi is the current Director General of Somali National Television (SNTV) and the former Director of Radio Muqdisho – The Voice of the Republic of Somalia. With over 15 years of experience in Somalia’s dynamic media landscape, Mohamedkafi is widely recognized as a respected media leader and a dedicated advocate for public service broadcasting.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mohamedkafi has worked across various media platforms in Somalia—radio, television, and digital multimedia—playing a pivotal role in the professionalization and modernization of Somali media. His visionary leadership has contributed significantly to strengthening public media institutions and advancing responsible journalism that informs, educates, and empowers Somali citizens.
In 2013, Mohamedkafi was honored with the Somalia Media Award, a prestigious recognition supported by the United Nations, celebrating his impactful contributions to the media sector. His unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and public service continues to inspire the next generation of Somali journalists and media professionals.
