Mogadishu, 3 December 2025 – The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Daud Aweys Jama, today held a fruitful meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, at the EU Embassy in Mogadishu.
Their discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in the areas of media, public awareness, culture, and tourism.
The Minister thanked the European Union for its significant role in Somalia’s recovery and development, particularly through programmes that support the media sector, culture and youth creativity, the prevention of illegal migration, and efforts to combat disinformation and extremism idealogy.
Both sides placed special emphasis on enhancing collaboration on public awareness initiatives related to security, elections, stabilization, and countering extremism.
They agreed on the importance of strengthening media cooperation to foster a unified public awareness approach.
Ambassador Francesca Di Mauro highlighted the importance of deepening bilateral cooperation in Information, Culture and Tourism, noting that the European Union remains one of Somalia’s strongest partners in supporting reconstruction and recovery.
Minister Daud reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to expanding its cooperation with the EU, particularly through programmes aimed at enhancing journalists’ skills, safeguarding press freedom, and promoting Somali culture through youth empowerment, as well as advancing Somalia’s tourism sector in which the EU can play a meaningful role.
