Minister of Information Meets with Directors of Independent Media Outlets

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Abdifatah Qasim Mahmoud, today held a meeting with directors and senior executives of independent media organizations operating in Mogadishu.

The meeting, which served as both an introductory engagement and an exchange of views, provided the Minister with an opportunity to listen to the perspectives, recommendations, and insights of private media leaders regarding the development of the media sector, the strengthening of cooperation, and the vital role of the media in public awareness, peacebuilding, and state-building.

The Minister underscored the importance of close collaboration between the Ministry and independent media institutions, noting that privately owned media outlets constitute a critical pillar in the dissemination of accurate information, the promotion of social cohesion, and the support of national development.

For their part, the directors of independent media organizations presented their views on the existing challenges facing the sector, opportunities for growth and advancement, and the importance of fostering a conducive environment for the continued development of Somalia’s media landscape.

The meeting, is part of the Minister’s broader consultations aimed at listening the views and recommendations of stakeholders across the Ministry’s team, concluded with a mutual understanding to continue consultations and strengthen cooperation in order to advance and modernize the Somali media sector.
