The Minister of Information Meets the Deputy Special Representative and UN Humanitarian Coordinator

Mogadishu, 03 May 2026: The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Daud Aweis Jama, today received in his office the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, who also serves as the United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia, Mr. George Conway.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Ministry of Information and the United Nations, particularly in the areas of media engagement, public awareness, humanitarian response, and the critical role of media during emergency situations.

Both sides also discussed the importance of coordinating communication efforts between the Federal Government of Somalia and United Nations agencies to ensure that Somali communities receive accurate, timely, and actionable information that supports effective responses to emergencies and humanitarian needs.

The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing collaboration, especially in expanding the reach of essential public information to rural populations and remote communities, with the aim of improving public access to information and increasing awareness among vulnerable groups.

The discussions also explored strategies for strengthening media capacity, providing specialized training for journalists on emergency reporting, and enhancing coordination between the awareness, communication, and public information programs of both United Nations agencies and the Federal Government of Somalia.
