Mogadishu, May 21, 2026 — The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, Abdufitaha Qasim Mohamud, today received the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Somalia, Alper Aktaş, at his office. The two officials discussed strengthening the historic ties of cooperation and brotherhood between Somalia and Türkiye, particularly in the areas of information, culture, and the development of media cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral collaboration, promoting the exchange of expertise and training, supporting the modernization of state media institutions, and expanding cultural cooperation to further strengthen relations and social integration between the two brotherly nations.
Following the discussions, the Minister and the Ambassador jointly toured various departments of the National Media institutions, including SONNA, SNTV, Radio Muqdisho, and the historical archives center of Radio Muqdisho.
The two officials later visited the Somali National Theatre, where they received a warm welcome from the national arts troupe Waberi and traditional cultural performers, who presented performances reflecting Somali heritage, culture, and arts.
Ambassador Alper Aktaş expressed his appreciation for the warm reception organized by the Minister during the visit to the Ministry’s institutions, the National Media departments, and the National Theatre. The Ambassador noted that the Government of Türkiye would continue strengthening its support and cooperation with Somalia in the fields of information, culture, and the development of key institutions serving Somali society.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Minister AbdulFitah Qasim Mohamud stated that the meeting was important for reinforcing bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
In conclusion, both sides reaffirmed the importance of continuing the fruitful partnership between Somalia and Türkiye in order to advance the media sector, preserve culture, and strengthen the strategic relationship between the two nations.
